Earth Day and Simple Ways to Live Green

Written by: tinagleisner

Build green homes, make green lifestyle choices, save a green earthEarth Day reminds us we can protect our earth and our environment by making smart choices in our everyday lives.  The first Earth Day occurred 40 years ago. Today’s world has more challenges but at the same time, the go green movement is making everyone more aware of the actions we can each take to live green.

Manufacturers are creating more green products by using renewable resources like bamboo. Building codes are requiring more energy efficient products. Builders are working with home owners to select the right mix of green, energy efficient products and materials to build green homes. Each of us has the opportunity to help create a healthier, cleaner and more prosperous future for ourselves and generations to come.

Green Homes + Living Green = Green Earth

Join me and other individuals, more than one billion people in 190 countries, and take action for Earth Day 2010. One action today is one step in committing to focus on efficient energy use, renewable sources of energy and reusing/recycling to protect our resources and make this world a better place to live.

  • Walk or ride a bike everywhere
  • Plant trees and grow vegetables
  • Use tote bags in place of disposable bags … reuse!
  • Use less water and turn off lights
  • Go for a walk and pick up trash

Share your ideas here and if you want to get involved, visit www.earthday.org to learn what earth day activities are planned in your community. There are many great videos online to inspire and help you plan these activities. If your community isn’t doing something today, consider getting involved to make it happen tomorrow.

Finally, I’ve bought my green grocery bags and I’m consciously trying to avoid using the plastic variety to do my share of reducing what gets put in landfills.
