I was bewildered when I started my handyman business as each type of flashing has it's own name. Trying to learn 10+ terms and which part of the house each applies to is confusing. Over time I saw that flashing explained the underlying concept, and if I talk about flashing at the edge of the roof, contractors will know that I mean drip edge. I understand your frustration.
