Why You Should Join Our Community

Your home doesn't come with a home owners manualYour home is built with 1,000s of parts, assembled by 20 to 30 contractors. Your home doesn’t come with an owners manual nor is there a single home services professional that can handle every aspect of maintenance and repair. You’ll feel prepared for any emergency when you have your home support team in place.

You have many ways to meet and interact with other community members, both professionals and other home owners. You can leave comments for the author of an article or request a new article when we don’t have what you’re looking for. You can suggest a radio show guest, by name (author of Marie’s Home Improvements) or category like home staging. We’ll add your request to our “home owner wish list” and do our best.

You can share your own stories to get feedback from other community members about a bathroom remodel project you’re planning, i.e. what to do yourself and when to call for help. Everyone has a nasty contractor story, so let’s turn these into a  learning experience for everyone. By sharing what you learned, others can avoid the same mistake. In fact the biggest problem often is lack of communication so by talking more, we can make a difference in the future to find just the right person.

You can help use grow by recommending us to friends and family who could benefit from the resources we offer. You probably know a few good home professionals and we’d love for you to introduce us (we’ll send them an info package if you share their name and email). Together we’ll build this community of home owners and professionals committed to

Our Community Members

People in a community get to know and respect each otherEach of us had a unique childhood. Maybe you grew up in a city, a single family home in the suburbs or a different country? Did you help your parents with routine home maintenance? Like learning a second language as a child, there’s no fear when you learn by doing things as a child. If you’re already comfortable around your home, we hope we can offer you ideas and support with future projects. If you’re new to home ownership and you’d like to learn more, you’ve come to the right place.

Many of our home professionals found they liked working with their hands as children, working side-by-side with a relative. Others found they liked their summer job painting or installing tile better than jobs they could get with their college degree, i.e. my brother-in-law has been hanging wallpaper for more than 30 years because he liked it and decided to stop looking for work in the health industry.

When we know each other and share a common language, everyone is more relaxed when discussing home projects.

The Home Ownership Experience

Home ownership is more than buying or selling a house, so building relationships for the long term is importantToday people search for a real estate agent when they’re ready to buy or sell a home. Once they move into their home, there tends to be a flurry of activity while getting settled. When you move to a new location, you have to contact your local utility companies or you won’t have power and water when you move in, and you need to show proof of insurance at the closing.

Children are a top priority when you move from schools, to music lessons and sports. You soon realize it’s time to find a new doctor and dentist, or at least there will be a reminder when it’s time for your annual checkups. Car dealers are good at sending you reminders about routine car maintenance so you have a good chance this postcard will find you.

You never know when an emergency will strike so you’re better off building your home support team so you’re prepared and know who you’ll call before you need one of them. You’ll benefit when you treat contractors like you would any other professional, as they’ve invested time and money building their skills and acquiring their tools which can cost several thousand dollars.
